Hey everyone! Black Friday should be about more than just spending money so retailers end the year “in the black”. Let’s call it “Support Your Local Author” day! (“Local” being nebulous on the interwebs.) Or even, “Read A Book, Love An Author” day!
I’m participating in a Black Friday Blog Hop with nine other fantastic authors. All of us are giving goodies away, and in many cases those goodies include copies of our books. All you have to do is comment, and you’ll be included to win! I’m giving away a $15 Amazon gift card and an e-copy of DEMON SOUL to one lucky winner! (Click on the link, which will take you to reviews.) And hopefully, if you don’t win, you’ll be intrigued enough to buy a copy of our books anyway!)
Black Friday. All my hubby wants this year is a new refrigerator. Not that ours is old; but it’s a side-by-side, with water and ice dispenser. Nifty and all and what all the cool kids wanted (about 10 years ago), but for our family it just doesn’t work. You can’t, for instance, put a regular sized frozen pizza in either the refrigerator OR the freezer.
He’s been wailing and gnashing his teeth for months now. He picked the fridge; he’s allowed to hate it. But this year he really wanted to pitch it. In the spirit of the upcoming fridge-centric holidays, and peace of mind, he even went online to look for Black Friday deals on refrigerators.
No go. So our refrigerator continues to run…and if it really did pick up legs and bolt, we’d not only wave as it ran down the street, but we’d lock the front door and not allow it back in.
BLOG HOP DETAILS: Simple, really. Not many rules. Just click on each blog address below, leave a comment, and hopefully win prizes! Here’s hoping your Black Weekend is a bright, happy and uneventful one.

That’s so funny. I loved reading your post. I’m glad to be sitting home today after spending the last 2 days cooking and cleaning. I didn’t want to end being trampled too. LOL Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!!!
Kimmie
Kimmie, there’s nothing better than to curl up with a book after two days of cooking and cleaning! Thanks for dropping by!
This blog hop is a welcome change of pace from all the madness going on in the world outside. I am getting ready to go to a friend’s house to do some beading and knitting; I am taking my jammies and a bottle of wine and making a night of it. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
How fun, Pam! Enjoy, and thanks for dropping by!
I know how he feels. We had a side by side and I hated it. You had to angle in to get anything out. One day I would love to have an industrial fridge.
Have a wonderful holiday season.
I’m not sure an industrial fridge will fit in the space I have for the fridge, but I’ll definitely give those a look-see! Thanks for dropping by, Michelle!
I wish we had an industrial fridge too. I could have really used that over the last couple days as our fridge was simply jammed with all the food and fixings. We even have one of those large glass door refrigerators filled to capacity. Have a great weekend!
I will – you too, Tammy! Thanks for popping in!
Christine, Bless his heart…a refrigerator? I hope he gets one soon. 🙂
I know, right? We’re saving our pennies! Thanks so much for dropping by!
I used to have a built-in side by side, which was 36″ wide, so there was actually room for a full size frozen pizza in the freezer & I could put a 1/2 sheet cake in the refrigerator. The saddest day of my life was when the compressor on it gave up the ghost & I had to get something else. Unfortunately, I was too financially challenged at the time to get another built-in, so I ended up with a traditional top freezer. 🙁

Kathryn, I’m hoping for a freezer on the bottom. It’s what I grew up with – and then I won’t have to get on my hands and knees to see what’s on the bottom refrigerator shelf, lol! Thanks so much for stopping by!
I’ve never had a side by side, guess I know now not to bother! We have an extra refrigerator in the garage, terrible for electric bill BUT my autistic grandson has a tendency to leave the one in the kitchen wide open in the middle of the night, so the really perishables go in the “spare” fridge.
Veronica, I don’t have room in my garage for a fridge – maybe some year (you know, when the garage is clean, the kids have good jobs, and spouses, and are no longer living at home, and hell has frozen over…).
Hi Christine,
I hope you get your refrigerator. I miss my side by side with the water & ice in the door. It was great for us. However I know what you mean that it’s small for a large family.
My adoptive parents just bought a new one. It’s a side by side but has huge refrigerator part. There’s also a bottom drawer that is underneath the doors that is big enough to put a large frozen pizza in. There’s is nice for they have a stainless steel one.
I have a regular top freezer one and a small chest freezer in my laundry room. I love that freezer. I don’t know what I would do without that little chest freezer. It will hold a whole large deer when we get one each year.
As far as black Friday. I stayed home and enter contest on computer and have been reading. Not going out again, last year was pushed into a shelf and finger smashed causing my fingernail to break beyond quick from a cart. People are idiots at those sales.

Teresa, trust me I’ll be scoping out ALL my options. Limited space, however, does pose a problem!
I’m now, toward the end of the day, climbing OUT of my jammies and getting into workout clothes. Heading to the gym and then to the best Chinese restaurant in my little town for takeout dinner. You couldn’t PAY me to shop today! I should hit up the grocery store, but I’ll wait at this point for tomorrow…too skeery!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
Hi Christine! Great idea! (And I thought I’d be stuck home all day.)
This fun 🙂
Joanna, thanks so much for dropping by! Chris Redding came up with the Black Friday Blog Hop and I thought it was a terrific idea. The hubby came up with the gym-and-Chinese food – and told me I couldn’t have the Chinese food until I’d been to the gym, lol!
LOL! Good luck finding the fridge of your dreams at some point 🙂 We didn’t brave the crowds for anything today–stayed home, cleaned the kids’ rooms, and we finished reading Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban… Nearly ready to start book 4… 😉 Happy relaxing, all of you!

Good for you for staying home! I vegged most of the day – wrote some, and got caught up on my Grey’s Anatomy viewing. I’m still waaay behind, but I’m getting there! Thanks so much for stopping by!
I have a vision of a fridge running down the road now. I hope your hubby gets his wish soon!
Shelley, as I was typing those words I was remembering the prank calls kids used to make – you know, “is your refrigerator running? If it is, you’d better go catch it!” Thanks so much for stopping by!
Hello Christine, LOL that was soooo funny about your Hubby & the Frig. because I hear my Hubby b***h about our side-by-side since we got it. LOL It was the “in” large gadget to have at the time, there’s not a darn thing wrong with it, but he wants to get another one, the “in” Frig now, you know the one, with the freezer on the bottom. I told him then he would b***h because he’d have to bend over to look for whatever frozen stuff he wanted, complaining his back hurt. LMAO Just can’t win! LOL Sooooo the side-by-side is still here, still dispensing ice & water & keeping food frozen on one side & cold on the other. LOL
Oh I can’t leave without telling you that Demon Soul in going on my TBR List, I can’t wait to read Gabriel & Rose’s Story, it sounds like such a GREAT Read!!!!
I hope Everyone had a Wonderful & Blessed Thanksgiving & a Safe Black Friday,
Renee’ S.

Too funny, Renee´! I actually grew up with a freezer-on-bottom fridge – and I much prefer it. And thank you so much for putting Demon Soul on your reading list – that did my writer’s heart good!
Living in Canada, we get to celebrate Thanksgiving twice – once in October and then vicariously in November. But Black Friday is a purely American experience. nothing here comes close, although I’ve noted that more and more stores here are offering good sales today and over the weekend.
Louise, it’s definitely NOT something most Americans are proud of, let me tell you. I truly hope it doesn’t infect Canada!
CONGRATS to Kathryn Merkel, who won an e-copy of DEMON SOUL and a $15 Amazon Gift Card! Thanks everyone for stopping in and commenting – I had a blast, and hope you did too!
D’oh! Should have popped on the computer yesterday. Spent the whole day de-toying (is that even a word? LOL) the kids room. Hope the hubby gets his fridge. I thought I would miss my ice and water dispenser when we moved here, but I have adjusted nicely. Although we still have a side by side. I hear the ones with the freezer at the bottom are really the best. *shrugs*
